When we had to put my grandma into a nursing home, she wanted the door closed all the time, and when they forgot, which was often, Gram had a temper to show.
your writing is amazing John, Thanks for sharing.
Jeff C.
Jeff C.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4022897692697196307.post-90606105827527339532012-10-22T16:53:34.512-04:002012-10-22T16:53:34.512-04:00John,

Yet, he didn't give up being a bit of a hell raiser if things didn't go the way they were supposed to go. Also his humor in printing the sign on the ad probably made him feel like he was having the last laugh but still wanted his small request to happen. Of course I didn't know your father, I am just reading my interpretation from the sign and your words. But I believe I would have likes him. -- barbaraFolkways Note Bookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07168881905408345126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4022897692697196307.post-81266520859749366942012-10-21T20:25:22.531-04:002012-10-21T20:25:22.531-04:00I had to laugh between my tears because my mother ...I had to laugh between my tears because my mother used the "inmate" term when she was in an assisted living facility. She was tough like your dad but always had a stinging sense of humor. I miss her as you do your dad. Your father was heroic in making that decision, which cost him so much, yet spared and helped his family at the same time. LOVE the Protest Sign. YES! He was lucky to have a son who was a good Elder Advocate. Best thing to have, in such situations. When all one wants is the door open, it seems a small - yet SO important - request to honor. It's really well-written and a wonderful way to honor your father, to show who he was. He obviously had a sense of the absurd and the humor therein. That's a good quality to have.

I had a few go rounds with the nursing home facility my mother was in. Advocate would be putting it rather nicely. :)

Inmate.
