Good Night Irene
By John R. Greenwood
She’s a bitch
A full-throttle
Foul-mouthed
Rain-coated bitch
She hates everyone
She has no favorites
She’ll wipe the smile from your face
Coasting upward
Only power-line sparks,
Wet cuffs,
Broken limbs, and
Dead flashlight batteries
Dead flashlight batteries
Make her smile
She simply
Doesn’t care
Fox News still loves her
State Farm pencils snap under her pressure
Sand bags tickle her ankles
Oh, the National Guard?
A mere poke in her side
Round and round she goes
Where she stops?

This post is a sprig of gentle humor in times of quiet consternation.
It is not meant to diminish the concern we all have for those whose lives will be affected by this catastrophic storm.

John,
ReplyDeleteI do hope that you and yours, will be safe and well from the grasps of this develish dame.
I am on holiday in France and experienced a mini storm yesterday, which was scary enough.
Take Care,
Best wishes, Eileen
Thankfully Eileen, my family is far from the coast. I hope to suffer no more than fat puddles and a leaf strewn lawn, though my thoughts are with those less fortunate and closest to the storm. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteHi John! I have an idea who this is about, but I will not speak her name, for fear I am wrong. May she and her D-battery smile fade from view!
ReplyDeletesmart spins, love the image you choose.

Excellent, powerful, angry poem about devastating, killer Irene. People are still suffering the aftermath, and then along came Lee.
ReplyDeleteWell written and thought-provoking! Loved it!
