War

War
By John R. Greenwood

In blue distance
voices call

gunshots ring in darkness

her soldier boy unheard from
a sad familiar song

tears flow from reddened eye
cries spurt from deep within
they dry in hardened anger

two lives began
now end

  2. Yes, indeed. You have captured the feel of the image, in my opinion.

    Heart wrenching.

  3. What a heart-wrenching poem. I can almost see the sadness in the posture of the girl in the picture. Very well done!

  9. So moving, and makes me wonder how I would be if I lost 1 of my 4 boys to war.The photograph adds so much, and I think it prompts more empathy from the reader for the mom.
